We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head of Business Studies to lead the Business Studies Department at [School Name]. The successful candidate will inspire, guide, and challenge both staff and students to achieve academic excellence, fostering a passion for Business Studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management:
    • Lead and manage the Business Studies department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
    • Oversee curriculum development and the implementation of innovative teaching methods.
    • Provide leadership, support, and professional development to department staff.
    • Monitor and evaluate the progress and performance of the department to meet set targets.
  • Teaching and Learning:
    • Deliver high-quality Business Studies lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
    • Promote a positive learning environment that encourages active student engagement.
    • Plan, prepare, and deliver effective lessons that meet the diverse needs of all students.
    • Assess students’ work and provide constructive feedback in a timely manner.
  • Curriculum Development:
    • Lead the design and delivery of a comprehensive and challenging curriculum that aligns with the national standards and school objectives.
    • Stay up-to-date with changes in the curriculum and examination requirements, ensuring that the department adapts to meet these challenges.
    • Organize and lead extra-curricular activities such as Business-related clubs, trips, and events.
  • Examinations and Assessment:
    • Oversee all Business Studies assessments, including mock exams and coursework.
    • Ensure students are fully prepared for internal and external examinations.
    • Analyze examination results and use data to improve student outcomes.
  • Strategic Development:
    • Contribute to the school’s strategic planning and policies as a member of the middle leadership team.
    • Ensure the department contributes to the overall success of the school and its objectives.
  • Staff Development and Mentoring:
    • Provide coaching and mentoring to teachers within the department.
    • Lead performance management reviews and professional development sessions.
    • Identify opportunities for staff development and support their growth in the field of Business Studies.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications:
    • Degree in Business Studies or a related field.
    • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is essential.
    • Further professional qualifications in leadership are desirable.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience teaching Business Studies at secondary level, including KS5.
    • Previous experience in a leadership role, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
    • Strong track record of raising academic achievement within a department.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
    • Ability to inspire and motivate students and staff.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Confident in data analysis and using data to drive improvement.
