Job Opportunity: SEN TA (Teaching Assistant)

Location: Wimbledon, London

Salary: £85 to £90

Contract Type - Full Time

Hours 8.30am-4pm

 

 

Are you passionate about supporting children and young adults with special educational needs? Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of students with autism spectrum disorder, profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), and complex care needs? A school we are currently recruiting for which is an inclusive SEN school in Wimbledon for students aged 3-19, is looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team.

 

In this role, you will work closely with a diverse group of students, offering both educational and personal care support. You will have the opportunity to help students develop life skills, engage with learning, and build confidence in a safe and nurturing environment.

 

SEN TA Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support to students with ASD, PMLD, and complex needs, helping them access the curriculum and participate in school activities.
  • Assist in delivering personalised learning plans, working alongside the class teacher and support staff.
  • Support students with essential personal care, including feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and well-being.
  • Use sensory-based and communication strategies, such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC, to enhance student engagement and communication.
  • Help manage behaviours through positive reinforcement and established behaviour management plans.
  • Monitor and record student progress, celebrating achievements, and identifying areas for further support.

 

SEN TA Job Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young adults with SEN, particularly those with ASD, PMLD, or complex needs (desirable but not essential—full training provided).
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach, with a commitment to supporting students with a wide range of abilities.
  • Willingness to assist with personal care, including feeding and toileting (full training and support provided).
  • Knowledge of alternative communication methods, such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC (beneficial but not essential).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of professionals.
  • A flexible, positive attitude, with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the students.
